Heart Arrhythmias & Atrial Fibrillation Clinic A specialised team that focuses on the management of patients with heart arrhythmias and patients with diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the commonest of the persistent arrhythmias. AF affects about 1-2% of the population (250,000-500,000 Australians) and the incidence increases with age. AF affects about 9% of those aged 65 and older. AF can cause a wide range of problems, including fatigue, shortness of breath, heart failure and even stroke.

Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular heart rhythm that causes an irregular flow of blood from the atria, the small heart chambers that pump blood into the ventricles, affecting the flow of blood to the lungs and the rest of the body.

In some people, it develops on its own, while others will experience it as a result of medical conditions, such as obesity, or diseases such as heart valve, lung or thyroid disease.

At Brellah, our multidisciplinary AF team includes Electrophysiology Cardiologists, General Cardiologists, General Practitioners, Case Managers and Exercise Physiologists. Together, they help diagnose the condition and any contributing medical issues, before helping patients develop a comprehensive plan for managing it.

Treatment can be as simple as lifestyle modification, weight loss and medication, through to complex heart procedures, including catheter-based therapy and open-heart surgery.

Whichever approach is right for you, we’ll make sure you feel confident and informed, every step of the way.

Your Clinic Team

The optimal management of AF requires a multidisciplinary team with a broad range of healthcare professionals. Patient education plays a very important role in the management of AF. We, at Brellah, believe in this approach and announce the creation of a specialist AF clinic, commencing in Fridays in April 2021. Brellah has the resources to provide your patients with this comprehensive care.

Our Atrial Fibrillation Clinic is created in collaboration with in-house health professionals including:

  • Cardiologists (particularly cardiac electrophysiologists)
  • General physicians (GPs)
  • Sleep physicians
  • Nurse case managers
  • Dieticians
  • Exercise physiologists
  • Counsellors

The Brellah Difference
