As we age, it’s important to stay active to prevent falls to maintain independence. Our Community Falls Prevention Program supports you looking after your body, giving you confidence in your ability even if it’s been a while since you joined an exercise program.
Our purpose-built centre is staffed and equipped to cater to the needs of people as they get older, including those who may have chronic medical conditions or are recovering from surgery. The program takes into account common conditions experienced by older people, such as arthritis or other painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Our 8-week Falls and Balance Program has been designed for those individuals who may be feeling unsteady on their feet or have had a recent fall. The program is evidence-based and tailored to your level and abilities. We run a number of these classes over the week, and no matter what your ability, we encourage you to give us a call to discuss your specific condition and how we can help you improve your balance and independence and reduce any further injury associated with falling.
The Healthy Ageing & Falls Prevention Program includes accredited Exercise Physiologists and Personal Trainers with extensive Active Ageing experience.
Group classes are held on:
Group Class (60min): $30/class
Standing Strong Workbook: $30 one-off

Who can attend?
If you have been advised by your GP, Geriatrician or hospital discharge team to attend following a fall, or to prevent future falls, this program has been specifically designed to support you in proactively maximising and maintaining your health.
Do I need a referral to attend the Falls Prevention Program?
You do not need a GP referral, however if you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition you may be eligible for a Medicare or DVA rebate for part of the program. Check with your usual GP or arrange to see a Brellah GP to find out if you are eligible for a team care arrangement.
Can I use my private health insurance or home care package to claim for these classes?
Many private health insurers and home care packages cover our 1 on 1 and group classes. Please check with your individual insurer or package provider for their reimbursement options.
How long should I attend the program?
Our program has been designed to run for 8 consecutive weeks and we encourage people to rebuild their community and and make exercise part of their weekly routine in the long term. We can work alongside you and your GP and/or Geriatrician to determine the most suitable plan for you, whether that is a tailored exercise program or a standard membership at our onsite fitness facility, Movement HQ.
How many sessions should I do?
It is recommended to attend our twice weekly group classes for the full 8 weeks in order to get the most out of the program. From there on, you may like to continue your group exercise with our exercise physiologists or progress to a regular Movement HQ membership (seniors memberships available).
Does the program include Education?
Yes! Our 8-week program includes interactive group education, discussing common risk factors for falls and ways to help reduce individual risks. Each participant will be provided with a take-home Standing Strong booklet which includes reading plus a checklist to conduct a home, health and surroundings assessment.
What should I bring and wear?
We suggest wearing comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely and flat, secure footwear. There may be some classes that you are encouraged to participate in bare feet (if you feel safe to do so). We also recommend bringing a drink bottle, towel and any necessary medications if required.
Please ensure you have your Medicare / DVA and Private Health Cards with you to allow us to process any rebates you may be eligible for.
Do you have parking available?
Yes, we have free on-site car parking at the front and rear of the building. We also have disabled parking and lift access.
What happens if I need to cancel a class booking?
Please let our team know if you are unable to attend by calling 02 9122 0888 at least 24 hours in advance. All payments are requested to be made at the class prior.
