Experience and expertise

Prof Frankum is a consultant clinical immunologist and allergy specialist with almost 30 years of clinical experience. He specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of immune-related disorders such as autoimmune conditions, immunodeficiency, allergies, and anaphylaxis. Prof Frankum’s specific areas of interest include diagnostic challenges and managing complex immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory drug regimens, including novel biological therapies. 

Prof Frankum is the recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia, awarded in 2013 for his contributions to medical administration and education. He has been involved in establishing clinical immunology and allergy services at multiple hospitals across Sydney, and has also served as the president of the Australian Medical Association (NSW) and chair of the board from 2017-18. Prof Frankum’s other distinguished leadership roles include serving as the inaugural director of medicine at Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals, and later as the executive clinical director. He continues as a senior staff specialist in clinical immunology and allergy at these hospitals. As the first clinical dean of the Macarthur Clinic School at the University of Western Sydney, Prof Frankum played a key role in shaping the educational opportunities for medical students.

With a passion for immunology and allergy driven by the diversity of patients it brings to his office, Prof Frankum has provided long-term care for many of his patients, sometimes even caring for entire families.

Outside of work

Prof Frankum has a lifelong passion for equestrianism. He has excelled as a competitor though has also played a pivotal role in the governance and development of equestrian activities in Australia. He is also a keen Crossfit participant.
