Experience and expertise

Dr Zoe Fitzgerald has over 18 years’ experience working in clinical practice and research as a Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Sydney and Illawarra regions. With extensive experience across varied areas of acute medical and rehabilitation psychology, including brain injury, epilepsy, stroke, dementia and other neurological conditions, she brings her expertise in neuropsychology to Brellah Caringbah.

Her previous roles include serving as the Unit Head/Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist of the Rehabilitation and Medical Psychology Department in Illawarra-Shoalhaven Local Health District, as well as educating students as a lecturer at the University of Wollongong in Masters of Clinical Psychology and Professional Psychology postgraduate courses. In 2017, she was awarded a research grant to investigate innovative nutrition and cognitive therapies in mild cognitive impairment alongside the School of Medical & Nutritional Sciences at the University of Wollongong, and has authored several research publications on epilepsy, mild cognitive impairment, and the impact of nutrition on the ageing brain.

Dr Fitzgerald currently divides her work between Brellah Caringbah and working in the busy in-patient acute wards at St George Hospital, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Her care always takes a patient-centred approach, considering the unique skill sets, experiences, and history of each individual.

Her specialised services include adult clinical neuropsychology, decision-making capacity assessments, testimonial capacity, cognitive rehabilitation and intervention (including memory), cognitive assessments designed to aid in the diagnosis of dementia, pre-surgical planning for those with Parkinson’s disease considering deep brain stimulation, and performance psychology. Dr Fitzgerald currently leads a 6-week memory training group program, focusing on strategies for enhancing and influencing memory. She is also an accredited WorkCover, Motor Accident Authority, and Department of Veterans’ Affairs provider.
